The AAPT Executive Board offers two scholarships for future high school physics teachers. These scholarships, supported by an endowment funded by Barbara Lotze, are available only to U.S. citizens attending U.S. schools.
Undergraduate students enrolled, or planning to enroll, in physics teacher preparation curricula and high school seniors entering such programs are eligible. The two successful applicants will each receive a stipend of up to $2,000. The scholarship may be granted to an individual for each of four years.

FIRE’s “Freedom in Academia” Essay Contest

The FIRE’s “Freedom in Academia” Essay Contest is open to U.S. high school students. To be eligible for this award, you must watch two short videos available on the website and write an essay of 700 to 1200 words explaining why free speech and First Amendment rights are crucial to higher education and how abuses of these rights harm education.

David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship

The David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship is open to undergraduate students who wish to study abroad in selected areas. To be considered, you must submit a proposal to the NSEP listing your field, geographic area and language of emphasis. Selection is based on academic record, potential to succeed in proposed area of study, commitment to international education, language interest and aptitude, quality and appropriateness of proposed program and its relevancy to the National Security Education Program. All award recipients must enter into a service agreement with the NSEP. U.S. citizenship is also required.
